Cornered by Ron MacLean and Kirstie McLellan Day

Ron MacLean, the long time host of Hockey Night in Canada and Don Cherry's punny straight man, is finally coming out with an autobiography. Available in early October 2011, Cornered will undoubtedly share great stories, insight and hilarity. Buy the Book: Amazon.ca - Chapters - Amazon.com - Kindle Paperback - Amazon.ca -  Chapters  - Amazon.com Despite what Cherry has said a few times about him during Coach's Corner, Ron MacLean is no dummy. To help him write this book he enlisted the help of Kirstie McLellan Day - the best selling hockey author in the past few years. She has previously penned the blockbuster autobiographies of Theoren Fleury and Bob Probert. The best part of this book will be how much of the real Ron MacLean is revealed. Not the on-camera persona but rather the human side, including his interests outside of hockey, the family man, and his insecurities and weaknesses. McLellan Day was the perfect choice as presenter. Of course, MacLean has...

According to The Globe And Mail Bestsellers List , it's Ron MacLean's new autobiography, Cornered . The book is co-written with Kirstie McLellan Day, who has previously topped the list with Theo Fleury and Bob Probert! Hockey Books Make Kirstie's Day

Let's face it - hockey, like most sports, has always been dominated by males. In the last 20 years or so that has started to change some, as women's involvement in hockey is more and more accepted and anticipated. On the ice, on the broadcasts and in the stands. Let's add on the bookshelves now too. With a few very rare exceptions, hockey books (all print journalism really) has been completely dominated by men. But did you know that the best selling hockey author in the world right now is a woman? According to the Globe and Mail Bestseller's list, Kirstie McLellan Day has two of the top ten books in all of Canada. She helped Bob Probert write his autobiography Tough Guy . And, still selling strong from 2009, she also helped write Theo Fleury's shocking autobiography Playing With Fire . The only other hockey book ranked in the top ten non-fiction books in Canada right now is Don Cherry's Hockey Stories Part 2 . McLellan Day may is undoubtedly on par wi...

Best of 2010: Hockey Biographies

Today HockeyBookReviews.com is going to name the top hockey biography of 2010. The finalists are: Eddie Shore And That Old Time Hockey by C. Michael Hiam  Final Call by Kerry Fraser The Golden Jet by Bobby Hull with Bob Verdi  They Call Me Killer by Brian Kilrea with James Duthie  Tough Guy by Bob Probert with Kirstie McLellan Day And the 2010 HockeyBookReviews.com Hockey Biography of the Year goes to: Tough Guy by Bob Probert with Kirstie McLellan Day. Simply put, how can you not go with McLellan Day's latest effort. Last year she masterfully turned Theo Fleury's tragic story into a book that remains on the Canadian bestsellers list a year later. With Bob Probert's autobiography, she turns an almost equally tragic story into a book that is every bit the equal of Fleury's book. Fleury's book was named as the 2009 Hockey Book of the Year winner last year, thanks in large part to McLellan Day. She takes home the new title of 2010 Hockey Biography o...

Tough Guy by Bob Probert with Kirstie McLellan Day

It is not often a book's prologue is entitled The Last Chapter. It is even less often those first 12 or so pages puts you through such an emotional roller-coaster that you may have to put the book down to catch your breath when you are done reading it! That's how Tough Guy: My Life On The Edge by Bob Probert with Kirstie McLellan Day, starts out. And it only gets better. Buy The Book -  Amazon.ca - Chapters - Amazon.com In that opening prologue Kirstie McLellan Day recreates Bob Probert's dying moments with such clarity it is as if you are right there on the boat too and it is happening all over again. The wide range of emotions I experienced while reading this passage was as amazing as any 12 pages I have ever read in any book. I was left bewildered and exhausted as she described the horrible and frantic moment. I was heartbroken for his wife. I was absolutely horrified at the thought of his children witnessing it all. I was angry with his friends who, try as the...

Interview With The Author: Kirstie McLellan Day

A couple of weeks ago I named Theo Fleury's book Playing With Fire as the Hockey Book Reviews.com 2009 Book Of The Year . It was a pretty easy choice this year, due to Theo's tragic story, the book's impact and bestselling status. But I was also full of praise for the book's authorship. It is Theo's story, but Kirstie McLellan Day is the book's unsung hero. She understood her subject probably more than she wanted to. By doing so, she kept the emotion and the anger in the text brilliantly. I recently had the chance to chat with Kirstie McLellan Day, seen below with Theo Fleury at a recent book signing. Here's the interview: From one author to another, what is it like to wake up in the morning, look at the bestselling books list in a variety of newspapers/media sources and see your book at the very top?! As you know Joe when you are a storyteller, your main goal is to have people listen to your stories. So it is really gratifying to hear that someone is tou...
