Amazing And Rare Hockey Book Up For Auction

Classic Auctions is back with their Fall 2012 offering. A number of hockey books are available, but one in particular steals the headlines.

Hockey Hall of Famer Andy Bathgate is making available his ultra-rare players edition of For The Love Of Hockey. It is a collection of career memories of hockey's all time greats, all told in the first person. The book, first published back in 1997, was a huge hit. But the true gem of the collection is the rare leather bound book featuring all 93 players autographs. Only 400 copies were made, with 100 specifically distributed to the featured players. This particular book could fetch 1000s of dollars. Think about it - a mint condition and rare classic hockey history book featuring the autographs of Maurice Richard, Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr, Jean Beliveau, Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy . . . the list goes on and on. This is a truly spectacular item that will make one very serious collector very happy.

Bathgate also makes available his copy of the leather bound volume of books, The Trail of the Stanley Cup. Commissioned by the NHL starting in 1968 and distributed to key NHL figures, including set #64 to Mr. Bathgate, this series of books is considered to be one of the earliest great works of hockey history. The leather bound sets gifted to specific players have proven to be hugely popular with collectors in the past. The Bathgate series will generate lots of interest.

Be sure to check out all of the hockey books available at the current Classic Auctions offering.

Interview With The Author: Kirstie McLellan Day

A couple of weeks ago I named Theo Fleury's book Playing With Fire as the Hockey Book Reviews.com 2009 Book Of The Year . It was a pretty easy choice this year, due to Theo's tragic story, the book's impact and bestselling status. But I was also full of praise for the book's authorship. It is Theo's story, but Kirstie McLellan Day is the book's unsung hero. She understood her subject probably more than she wanted to. By doing so, she kept the emotion and the anger in the text brilliantly. I recently had the chance to chat with Kirstie McLellan Day, seen below with Theo Fleury at a recent book signing. Here's the interview: From one author to another, what is it like to wake up in the morning, look at the bestselling books list in a variety of newspapers/media sources and see your book at the very top?! As you know Joe when you are a storyteller, your main goal is to have people listen to your stories. So it is really gratifying to hear that someone is tou...
